SPEAKERS:

Scott Blanchard                Vale Jokisch                 Carol Pepper              Margarita Womack

The Art and Science of Teamwork and Leadership in Family Business.
Scott Blanchard, Ken Blanchard Companies

Scott Blanchard, a second generation member of the Ken Blanchard Companies, will share current research on the what makes leadership, at all levels, the most critical factor that determines the success or failure for organizations. The research is clear that many of the age old principles of leadership and teamwork are not only valid but more important than ever. In addition, he will share research that debunks some other commonly accepted practices found in organizations. An understanding of what works and what doesn’t from a leadership and teamwork standpoint is invaluable as family businesses manage generational transitions, employ non-family management and attempt to build a culture that builds on the best aspects of the past and also adapts to strong and undeniable changes occurring in today’s environment.

This session will be highly interactive and will provide family members an opportunity to identify strengths, weaknesses and areas of change required.

Enhance Your Impact with a Sustainable Family Office
Carol Pepper, Pepper International, LLC

Family offices evolve over time as the family grows and the needs of the family expand.  For business owning families, this evolution involves separating the family office from the business as they strive to professionalize services.  Join this session, to hear Family Office Expert, Carol Pepper, share her perspective on reasons to separate, how to structure the office and current trends with business owning families.  She will explore a case study focused on how a family creates impact by expressing their family values through the company and the family office -- by co-investing with other families, engaging NxG in impact investing and philanthropy.

Fostering the Spirit and Developing Entrepreneurship in the Family
Margarita Womack, Casatoro SA (Columbia)

Business success is generally tied to the expansion of the legacy business. Some families sell the family business and evolve into a dynamic portfolio of businesses.  Another avenue of success, one that isn’t often discussed, is leveraging the entrepreneurial spirit within the rising generation.

Join Margarita Womack PhD, MBA, third generation member of Casatoro SA (Colombia) and finalist for the Global FBN NxG Entrepreneurship Award in 2018.  Margarita is the founder of M’panadas, a budding company in the Mid-Atlantic that is far removed from the core family business in Colombia. She will share her story and explore the role of entrepreneurship in family businesses. In this interactive session, Margarita will help us investigate what we can do to increase entrepreneurship in the younger generations and provide fresh ideas and engaging strategies for us to put into practice.
